About us

The Architected Intelligent Matter (AIM) Laboratory is a research group in the Department of Aeronautics at Imperial College London, on the South Kensington campus. The group was founded at the University of Houston in 2021 and moved to Imperial in 2026. Our research vision describes what we work on; the projects and publications document the results, and the studio side of the lab explores the same ideas through the practice of art.

A giant 18-wheeler came with all of our lab benches and shelves. We muscled everything in.

The first equipment

We cleared out all the "mid-century furnishing". The first equipment started to arrive, including a selective laser sintering (SLS) printer, a laser cutter and the Instron testing machine.
